CONTOURS AS ART

The use of digital elevation models (DEM) in cartography is widespread as contour lines allow us to understand slope and important terrain characteristics. This map is made with a DEM that came directly from Map Mavin’s own Data Catalog! By searching for ‘elevation’ data in the catalog, you can easily import and stylize DEMs with our choropleth mapping tool. The contour layer from College Station has been symbolized using a color ramp ranging from blue to green. In this web map, all colors in between the bluest and greenest tones are estimated using exponential interpolation to allow for smooth visual transitions between elevation values.
